How to Install and Upload Claude Skills (Apps, Claude Code and API)

Claude app (web, desktop)

1. Turn on Code execution and file creation (Settings → Capabilities). Skills are available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans.
2. Go to Customize → Skills → + → Create skill → Upload a skill.
3. Upload a zip whose top level is the skill folder (my-skill/SKILL.md).
4. Toggle it on and try it in a chat. Claude uses it automatically when your request matches the description.

Invoke with /my-skill or let Claude load it automatically.

Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, Copilot

Most agents read the shared .agents/skills/ folder (project) and ~/.agents/skills/ (personal). Cursor also reads .cursor/skills/ and the Claude and Codex folders; Gemini CLI also reads .gemini/skills/; GitHub Copilot also reads .github/skills/, .claude/skills/ and ~/.copilot/skills/.

Skill not loading?

• Check the zip structure (unzip -l my-skill.zip — every line should start with my-skill/).
• Check the frontmatter starts on line 1 with ---.
• Make the description mention the words you actually use when asking.
