How to add a prompt or skill to your AI

Every prompt in our skill library works as plain instructions in any AI. Here's how to save it so you don't have to paste it every time.

Checked 17 October 2026 against each provider's help pages. Menus change, so if a step looks different, look for the nearest match.

ChatGPT

  1. Copy the prompt.
  2. In ChatGPT, open the sidebar and choose New project. Call it "My skill".
  3. Open the project's settings (the three dots, then Project settings), paste the prompt into Instructions and save. Start your chats inside that project.

Projects work on the free plan. In a hurry? Paste the prompt at the start of any chat instead. New custom GPTs can no longer be made on personal accounts, so a project is the way to save it.

Do I need a paid plan? No. Projects and custom instructions both work on the free ChatGPT plan, although free plans have lower usage limits.

Gemini

  1. Copy the prompt.
  2. In the Gemini app or at gemini.google.com, open the menu and choose Customise, then Skills. On some accounts it's under Settings, then Skills.
  3. Choose Create, then Create manually (a blank template). Call it "My skill", add a one-line description of when to use it, paste the prompt into Instructions and tap Create. Gemini can then use it automatically, or type / in a chat and pick it.

Skills are free, but you need to be 18 or over, signed in, with Keep activity on. For now you may still see Gems, but Google is replacing them with skills for personal accounts from November 2026.

Do I need a paid plan? No. Gemini skills work without a Google AI subscription. You need to be 18 or over, signed in, with Keep activity switched on.

Copilot

  1. Copy the prompt.
  2. Open Copilot and start a new chat.
  3. Paste the prompt and add: "Please follow these instructions for the rest of this chat." Then ask for what you need.

Using Copilot through work or school? You may be able to save it: under Agents, choose New agent, then Skip to configure, and paste the prompt into Instructions.

Do I need a paid plan? No. Pasting the prompt at the start of a chat works in the free Copilot app. Saving it as an agent is an option on some work and school accounts.

Claude

  1. Quickest: paste the prompt at the start of a new chat.
  2. To install it as a skill: save the SKILL.md version in a folder called my-skill, then zip the folder (not just the file).
  3. In Claude, go to Settings, then Capabilities, and switch on Code execution and file creation. Then go to Customize, then Skills, tap +, then Create skill, then Upload a skill, and choose the zip.

Skills work on every Claude plan, including Free.

Do I need a paid plan? No. Skills work on every Claude plan, including Free, once Code execution and file creation is switched on in Settings.

Meta AI

  1. Copy the prompt, then open Meta AI.
  2. Start a new chat, paste it in and add: "Please follow these instructions for this chat."
  3. Optional: ask it to remember the key facts, for example "Remember my youngest is a fussy eater."

Do I need a paid plan? No. Meta AI is free to use, and pasting the prompt at the start of a chat is all you need.

Grok

  1. Copy the prompt, then open Grok.
  2. Open Projects in the sidebar and create a new project called "My skill".
  3. Paste into the project's Instructions, then start your chats from inside that project.

Do I need a paid plan? Pasting the prompt at the start of a chat works on Grok's free plan. Saving it in a project may depend on your plan, so check in Grok.

Perplexity

  1. Copy the prompt, then open Perplexity.
  2. In the sidebar, open Projects, choose New project and call it "My skill".
  3. Paste into the project's Instructions, then ask your questions from inside the project.

Do I need a paid plan? Pasting the prompt at the start of a search works on Perplexity's free plan. Saving it in a project may depend on your plan, so check in Perplexity.

DeepSeek

  1. Copy the prompt, then open DeepSeek.
  2. Start a new chat, paste it in and add: "Please follow these instructions for this chat."
  3. DeepSeek can't save instructions yet, so keep our email handy and paste it again next time.

Do I need a paid plan? No. DeepSeek's chat is free. It can't save instructions yet, so keep the prompt somewhere handy and paste it in each time.

Le Chat

  1. Copy the prompt, then open Le Chat.
  2. In the sidebar, go to Context, then Skills, and click New Skill. Call it "My skill".
  3. Paste into the SKILL.md box and click Create Skill. It switches on when your request matches.

Don't see Skills? Go to Agents, then Create Agent, and paste into Instructions instead.

Do I need a paid plan? Le Chat has a free plan, and pasting the prompt at the start of a chat works there. Saving it as a skill or agent may depend on your plan.
