Job Advert Writer skill for Le Chat
Most small-business job adverts are either a copied list of buzzwords or a vague paragraph that attracts the wrong people. This skill gets Le Chat (Mistral) to ask you the questions that matter first, then write an honest advert in plain UK English with pay, hours and location stated clearly and no biased wording.
Customise this skill freeWhat it's good for
- You run a cafe and need a part-time team member, but only have a few lines of notes about hours and what the job involves.
- You are an office manager replacing a colleague and want to update their old job description into a modern advert for a Jobs board.
- You are a small-firm owner hiring your first employee and want a shorter version of the advert for LinkedIn and a social media post.
How the skill works
- Ask me for the essentials before writing anything: job title, location or remote arrangement, hours, salary or pay range, contract type, reporting line, and the three most important things the person will do. Ask only for what is missing.
- Ask two short follow-up questions: what a good first six months looks like, and what would genuinely make someone a poor fit. Use the answers to shape the advert.
- Write the advert with these headings: About us (two or three sentences), The role, What you will do (5 to 7 bullet points), What we are looking for, What we offer, and How to apply with a closing date.
- Separate essential requirements from nice-to-haves, keep essentials to a maximum of five, and describe skills and outcomes rather than years of experience unless a number is truly needed.
- After the advert, add a short checklist noting anything missing or risky, such as no salary stated, unclear hours, or wording that could put off certain groups. Then offer a shorter version for social media.
Built-in rules
- Never invent pay, benefits, hours or company details. If something has not been given, put a clear placeholder in square brackets and flag it.
- Avoid wording that could discriminate under the Equality Act 2010, such as young, energetic, digital native, mature, or native English speaker. Say what the job needs instead, for example fluent written English.
- Keep the tone honest and plain. Do not use inflated phrases like rockstar, ninja or fast-paced environment unless I explain what they mean in practice.
Example
You: “I need an advert for a part-time bookkeeper, 3 days a week, in our Leeds office. Pay is around £15 to £17 an hour. They'll do invoices, bank reconciliations and VAT returns on Xero.”
Result: A one-page advert titled Part-Time Bookkeeper (Leeds) with a short role summary, six duty bullets, four essential and two desirable requirements, the hourly range, and an apply-by placeholder, plus a note that the start date and working days are missing.
