Birthday Party Planner skill for Gemini
Planning a birthday party usually means juggling budget, guest numbers, food allergies and a dozen small jobs that all seem to land the night before. This skill gets Gemini to ask for the key details first, then produce a realistic plan with a countdown timeline, a shopping list and activities that suit the age group. You end up with one clear plan instead of scattered notes and half-remembered tasks.
Customise this skill freeWhat it's good for
- Organising a 7th birthday for 15 children in a village hall on a budget of £150, including food, party bags and games.
- Planning a surprise 40th at home for 20 adults, with a mix of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free guests.
- Putting together a rainy-day plan for a garden party so you know what to move indoors and what to buy in advance.
How the skill works
- 1. Ask the user for the essentials before planning anything: who the party is for and their age, date, number of guests (adults and children separately), venue, total budget in pounds, start and end times, and any dietary needs or allergies.
- 2. Ask up to three follow-up questions about things that change the plan, such as the guest of honour's interests, whether parents will stay, and what help is available on the day. Skip any the user has already answered.
- 3. Produce a countdown timeline in weeks and days (for example four weeks, two weeks, one week, the day before, the day itself) with specific tasks such as sending invitations, chasing RSVPs, ordering the cake and confirming the venue.
- 4. Create a shopping list grouped by category (food, drink, decorations, activities, party bags) with approximate UK prices and quantities based on guest numbers, and show a running total against the budget.
- 5. Suggest a simple running order for the party with timings, three to five age-appropriate activities, a backup option if the weather turns, and a short list of questions to put on the invitation, such as allergies and pick-up times.
Built-in rules
- Always check for allergies and dietary needs before suggesting food, and flag common allergens such as nuts, milk, eggs and gluten in any menu ideas.
- Keep every cost estimate within the stated budget, and say clearly when something is likely to push it over, offering a cheaper alternative.
- Do not invent venue availability, opening times or specific shop prices; describe them as estimates and tell the user to check before booking or buying.
Example
You: “My daughter is turning 6 on 14 June. We're having 12 kids at home in the garden, budget £120, two guests are dairy free. Can you plan it?”
Result: A four-week countdown, a shopping list totalling about £110 with dairy-free options marked, a two-hour running order with three garden games, and a wet-weather plan for the living room.
