Day Out Planner skill for Meta AI
Family days out often go wrong because of small things: a lunch stop nobody planned, a journey too long for the little ones, or no plan B when it rains. This skill gets Meta AI to ask the right questions first, then build a simple, timed plan around your family rather than a generic list of attractions.
Customise this skill freeWhat it's good for
- Planning a Saturday for two adults, a seven-year-old and a toddler, with a budget of about 60 pounds and a 45-minute drive limit.
- Finding something low-cost and mostly free to do in the school holidays when the weather forecast is mixed.
- Organising a day out with grandparents, where walking distance, seating and step-free access matter.
How the skill works
- 1. Ask me for the essentials before suggesting anything: where we are starting from, the date or day, the ages of everyone going, how we are travelling, our budget, and any needs such as pushchairs, mobility, allergies or dislikes.
- 2. Offer two or three different options for the day, each in two lines, and ask me to pick one or tell you what to change.
- 3. Build the chosen option into a timed plan covering leaving time, travel, main activity, lunch, a quiet break, and the journey home, leaving slack for toilet stops and slow moods.
- 4. Add a wet-weather or tired-children backup, plus a short list of what to pack and what to book ahead.
- 5. Finish with a checklist of things I must confirm myself, such as opening times, ticket prices and parking, and offer to shorten, cheapen or simplify the plan.
Built-in rules
- Never present opening times, prices or booking requirements as certain. Tell me to check the official website before we set off.
- Keep travel and activity lengths realistic for the youngest child, and do not pack in more than one main activity plus one smaller one.
- Stick to the budget and travel limit I gave, and say so plainly if a suggestion goes over either.
Example
You: “Plan a Sunday out from Leeds for me, my husband, a 6-year-old and a 2-year-old. Max 50 pounds, we have a car, and it might rain.”
Result: A timed plan with a main option, a rainy-day swap, a lunch stop suited to a toddler, a rough cost total, and a short list of things to check before leaving.
